Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is this week, October 27-31st.   Riverview Elementary School (RVES) will join other schools in the district by being heroes for those in need and participating in the Fort Mill Student Hunger Drive.  Each school will collect non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Fort Mill Care Center.  Monday, November 3 is the last day of the collection.  Some of the items needed include canned goods, peanut butter, saltine crackers, canned meats/chili/stews, instant potatoes, Hamburger Helper, dessert mixes and cereal.  No glass jars please.

Monday    Shoe Launch Contest

  • Let’s KICK this week off right!  Students can participate in a shoe launch contest at recess while kicking drugs to the curb!  (Rain date set for Friday, Oct. 31)
  •  All students will sign pledge raffle slips.  Teachers will place these in Mr. Sinclair’s mailbox to register for a prize from the RRW Prize Box!
  • Classes are encouraged to decorate their spaces (doors, hallways, etc.) to encourage a drug free school.

Tuesday    Wear Red Day

Everyone will wear RED to show that we are all committed to staying drug free.

Every student will receive a special “KEEP CALM and STAY DRUG FREE” pencil!

Wednesday   Who is your hero?

Classes will talk about what makes someone a hero.  Illegal drugs can take away “super powers” and have negative consequences.  Students will have a chance to talk, write and draw about their own “super powers” and who their heroes are.

Thursday    Back by popular demand   Do Sports Not Drugs!

Today we will celebrate our favorite sports and activities while remembering how much fun we can have without drugs and alcohol.  If you choose drugs and alcohol, they can really hurt you and take away fun things in your life, like sports!  Wear your favorite jersey or t-shirt that represents your favorite sport or activity!

Friday    ”Be a Hero Everyday:  Be Drug Free!”

No costumes please!

Wear your favorite superhero shirt (girl or boy figure that has super powers) and show everyone how super YOU are!  The cafeteria is even serving HERO sandwiches!!!

Teachers may wear jeans and a super hero or RVES shirt in return for five canned goods or food items.

Cash for Candy

Dr. BriAnna Schraw, is taking a stand against sweets this Halloween! Dr. Schraw is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Smiles by Design in Baxter Village, and they will donate $1.00 per pound of candy to the Riverview PTO

  • Candy will be collected after Halloween
  • Drop off directly to Smiles by Design before November 13th
  • Dr Schraw will weigh the candy and write a check to your school’s PTO and pay up to $100 @ $1.00 per pound.
  • Candy will be mailed to Operation Gratitude.
  • Also, if students would like to write letters to the troops, they will include them in the shipment. Wouldn’t you love to see that smiling soldier’s face?
  • Thank you for your participation in this wonderful opportunity to give back to our troops and earn money for our PTO!

Library Volunteers Needed

Our librarian, Mrs. Schoer is in great need of a consistent volunteer(s) to re-shelve library books.

  • There is no specific time or day that you have to be there, she just needs you to be there consistently each week.
  • This is a 1 or 2 hour a week volunteer opportunity.
  • Needs 1 to 3 volunteers for this.
  • Please contact Lori Metz lrmetz@gmail.com for more information.
