Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is next week, October 27-31st.   Riverview Elementary School (RVES) will join other schools in the district by being heroes for those in need and participating in the Fort Mill Student Hunger Drive.  Each school will collect non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Fort Mill Care Center.  Monday, November 3 is the last day of the collection.  Some of the items needed include canned goods, peanut butter, saltine crackers, canned meats/chili/stews, instant potatoes, Hamburger Helper, dessert mixes and cereal.  No glass jars please.

Monday    Shoe Launch Contest

  • Let’s KICK this week off right!  Students can participate in a shoe launch contest at recess while kicking drugs to the curb!  (Rain date set for Friday, Oct. 31)
  •  All students will sign pledge raffle slips.  Teachers will place these in Mr. Sinclair’s mailbox to register for a prize from the RRW Prize Box!
  • Classes are encouraged to decorate their spaces (doors, hallways, etc.) to encourage a drug free school.

Tuesday    Wear Red Day

Everyone will wear RED to show that we are all committed to staying drug free.

Every student will receive a special “KEEP CALM and STAY DRUG FREE” pencil!

Wednesday   Who is your hero?

Classes will talk about what makes someone a hero.  Illegal drugs can take away “super powers” and have negative consequences.  Students will have a chance to talk, write and draw about their own “super powers” and who their heroes are.

Thursday    Back by popular demand   Do Sports Not Drugs!

Today we will celebrate our favorite sports and activities while remembering how much fun we can have without drugs and alcohol.  If you choose drugs and alcohol, they can really hurt you and take away fun things in your life, like sports!  Wear your favorite jersey or t-shirt that represents your favorite sport or activity!

Friday    ”Be a Hero Everyday:  Be Drug Free!”

No costumes please!

Wear your favorite superhero shirt (girl or boy figure that has super powers) and show everyone how super YOU are!  The cafeteria is even serving HERO sandwiches!!!

Teachers may wear jeans and a super hero or RVES shirt in return for five canned goods or food items.

Red Ribbon Week Shoe Launch Volunteers Needed

On Monday, October 27, we will kick off Red Ribbon Week with a shoe launch competition. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States.

The guidance counselor, Mr. Sincliar, has asked for 1-2 volunteers to help with the shoe launch competition during recess on Monday.  The students will line up side-by-side on the black top and kick one shoe as far as possible.  The shoe that goes the farthest wins and prizes will be rewarded. Volunteers will give instructions and award prizes.

1-2 volunteers are needed per time slot.  Kindergarten will need 1-2 per class!  The rest are 1-2 per grade level.  Please click on this LINK to sign up to volunteer.
