Coming Soon – Riverview’s “EXIT” Stravaganza

Join us on Friday, December 5th from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The RVES Faculty/Staff and PTO invite everyone to a celebration to say farewell to our current building before we move to our new facility.  This special event is to honor our “Old Riverview” before we move.  We are extending our invitation to the school board, anyone in the community, and Riverview Alumni.  It will be advertised in the Fort Mill Times and on CN2 NEWS.  This is our chance to say “good-bye” to our building before the move.  There are lots of memories and stories to be shared.  We will have a booth set up to do just that.  We will also have memorabilia and pieces of history displayed to honor the “Original Riverview” where Starbucks now resides. So mark your calendars for Friday, December 5th to help us celebrate and say goodbye to our facility.

This event is similar to last year’s Winterfest.  Here is what you can expect at this year’s event:

  • There will be no tickets sold!! All games/booths will be organized and run by the teachers and are FREE to enjoy.
  • The PTO is organizing meals and concessions in the cafeteria, so bring cash for FOOD!

New School Update

Parents and teachers were given an update on the new Riverview Elementary School construction at the November PTO meeting. Dr. Tommy Schmolze, Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Student Services, Forrest King, a representative from Cumming Construction and Mrs. Chinchilla gave updates on the construction and move.  At this point they anticipate the school being done on time with classes starting in the new building on January 6th.

In terms of a construction timeline, the 1st floor has passed a major inspection and the 2nd floor will have a major inspection November 18th.  Final inspection is now set for December 11th.  Paving of the driveway and parking lots will start Monday November 10 as will installation of the carpet and other flooring in classrooms.  Technology wires are being run along with other construction, and new Smart TVs and computers will begin installation on December 1st.  All technology should be functional by the final inspection.  Furniture will also be loaded in early December.

The only major item that will not be done when the school opens is the terrazzo (poured decorative concrete) flooring in the halls, cafeteria and hall walls.  Due to construction constraints this will be done over the summer.  The school will open with painted, polished  concrete floors in those areas.

The PTO will need many volunteers to help with moving, but specific needs are still being worked out.  The majority of the move is scheduled for December 18th and 19th, but there may be other volunteer needs the weekend before, over Christmas break or on January 5th and 6th.  If you would like to help with the move, please make sure our Volunteer Coordinator Lori Metz has you on our volunteer list so you get regular updates on volunteer needs and sign ups.  If you are not registered you can complete our volunteer form at THIS LINK or contact Lori at lrmetz@gmail.com.

January 5th, the day before the school opens, will be Meet The School Night, when teachers and students will be able to tour the new school.  More details on this will be coming soon.

Cash for Candy

Dr. BriAnna Schraw, is taking a stand against sweets this Halloween! Dr. Schraw is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Smiles by Design in Baxter Village, and they will donate $1.00 per pound of candy to the Riverview PTO

  • Candy will be collected after Halloween
  • Drop off directly to Smiles by Design before November 13th
  • Dr Schraw will weigh the candy and write a check to your school’s PTO and pay up to $100 @ $1.00 per pound.
  • Candy will be mailed to Operation Gratitude.
  • Also, if students would like to write letters to the troops, they will include them in the shipment. Wouldn’t you love to see that smiling soldier’s face?
  • Thank you for your participation in this wonderful opportunity to give back to our troops and earn money for our PTO!
